Here is what is left of one of the major "nerve centers" of the 1960-62 Operation Peter Pan, an effort that enabled over 14,000 unaccompanied Cuban children gain their freedom from the Communist menace taking over their homeland. Thank you America!

zphotos > This is the building that housed our showers. On both ends, there were bathrooms where we could take care of our most essential needs. The structure was green back in 1962, not this garish color.
zphotos > This small circumference of black and concrete shelters a small area of remembrance at Camp Matecumbe. It is located about halfway between the Big Cabin and the Old Dining Room. It is believed that none of the plaques memorializes people who were wards of the U.S. Government while at the camp.
